I’m very proud to announce that your local Sehome high school sailing team just won the NW District Championships this weekend and will head to San Diego in two weeks to compete for the National Championships. The team beat 16 other northwest teams from Washington and Oregon after 28 hard fought races down in Anacortes.

The team was lead by skippers Miles Johannessen, a senior, and Liam Hood, a sophomore. Both skippers sailed very fast with consistently good finishes. Their crews consisted of senior Elise Chambers, and sophomores Riley Allsop, Shea Walker, and Jeffrey Werner. Nearly all of these sailors went through one of the local learn to sail programs at the Bellingham Yacht Club or WWU Lakewood.

The team will now head to San Diego for nationals and race against 18 teams from around the country. The team will be holding fundraisers to pay for the trip over the next two weeks, so look for an opportunity to help them out.
